AUTHOR LIFE: 8 Things To Note

A blogger asked me the questions below and I thought I would share them, along with my answers.

What inspires you to write?

My inspiration to write comes from God, my family, friends, fellow authors, and my interactions with people in general.

For me, writing is a ministry. While I desire to tell a great love story, ministry must come from it. It is my desire to write many inspirational, life-changing books. I want my words to encourage hope, change, forgiveness, healing, restoration and new beginnings.

What do you do when you are not writing?

When I’m not writing, I am usually teaching praise dancing or spending time with my family. Of course, I carve out time for reading.

When did you first start writing and when did you finish your first book?

In 2010, I started writing my first book, “Unforgettable, My Love Has Come Along”, and it was published on July 31, 2012.

How did you choose the genre you write in?

I have always been a fan of faith-based romance, so I believe that genre beckoned to me. It was a natural fit.

Have you ever experienced writer's block?

I can’t say I have. Regarding my writing process, I carry the storyline in my mind until I have a good grasp on where I’m heading with it. During that time, I get to know the characters - their backgrounds, personalities, likes and dislikes, pain points, etc. In light of the foregoing, when I begin to write, I pretty much have the story mapped out, mentally.

Do you work with an outline, or just write?

I use a basic outline but I like to see where the story takes me. I find that to be very liberating. Of course, by the time I wrap up the story, it looks nothing like the outline.

Have you written a book you love that you have not been able to get published?

No. I have a lot balancing so when I write I try to get the book published.

Is anything in your book based on real life experiences or purely all imagination?

Unforgettable, My Love Has Come Alone was loosely based on real-life experiences as I embarked on my amazing journey from singleness to my wedding day. I drew on some of my experiences, encounters, feelings, insights and interactions to give this fictional story life. Otherwise, my books are all about my imagination flying free.

Let me hear from you!
